Grief is Unique and Complex

There is no right way to "feel." Grief can manifest as anger, guilt, extreme sadness, numbness and even through physical symptoms. You deserve to heal.

“My heart feels so broken, I can’t stop crying.”

“I’m angry at the world.”

“I feel so guilty when I allow myself to be happy.”

“I haven’t felt well since the loss.”

“I don’t know how to move on without my loved one.”

You deserve happiness.

Joy is possible.

You can smile again.

Your health matters.

Find meaning in life.

If you can relate to any of the above statements, it’s time to address and

process your grief. Counseling can help you work through your feelings,

find balance in your life and move forward with hope.

Denise founded Life Quest Counseling and Consulting, LLC from a desire to help people through challenging times. We provide you with a safe and supportive space

You can find joy in life again.

Understanding Grief

Grief is a human response to loss. It’s the emotional suffering felt when someone or something you love is taken away. Events such as the death of a parent or child, a miscarriage, a divorce or a devastating medical diagnosis can trigger grief.

Regardless of the type of loss experienced, everyone grieves differently. Though there are recognized stages in the grieving process, not everyone will pass through each stage - and not everyone has to, in order to heal.

The 5 Stages of Grief

1.

Denial

“This isn’t real.”

2.

Anger

"How can this be happening?

I need to blame someone."

3.

Bargaining

“If this goes away,

I promise to change.”

4.

Depression

“The sadness is overwhelming.”

5.

Acceptance

"I have accepted what has happened.”

A person experiencing grief may experience

the following emotional symptoms:

  • Shock and Disbelief

  • Sadness

  • Fear

  • Anger

  • Guilt

A person experiencing grief may experience

the following physical symptoms:

  • Fatigue and/or insomnia

  • Nausea

  • Aches and pains such as chronic headaches

  • Weight loss or gain

  • A lowered immune system

Kubler-Ross Model

“Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm and sometimes, it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.” Vicki Harrison
